The Metro-West Detention Center is at 13850 Northwest 41st Street in Miami, Florida 33178. Call (786) 263-5110 for information about this facility. Metro-West holds 2,200 beds for both male and female inmates. This facility houses people with minimum, medium, and maximum security levels. Most inmates at Metro-West are already serving sentences after being convicted in court.

The Pretrial Detention Center sits at 1321 Northwest 13th Street in Miami, Florida 33125. The phone number is (786) 263-4110. This facility has 1,400 beds and houses people waiting for trial or who have ongoing cases. The location is close to Central Court, which makes it easy to transport inmates to their court hearings. Many pretrial inmates get released after posting bond or when their cases are resolved.

Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, known as TGK, is located at 7000 Northwest 41st Street in Miami, Florida 33166. Call (786) 263-5341 for TGK information. TGK also has a Juvenile Unit for young offenders. Most releases happen at this facility after inmates complete their sentences or post bond.

How to Search for Miami-Dade Released Inmates

The online inmate search tool is at miamidade.gov/Apps/mdcr/inmateSearch. This portal lets you look up current inmates and some release information. You need to enter at least three letters of the person's first name and last name to start a search.

Miami-Dade County inmate search portal showing name search fields

The search portal provides information only on inmates in custody. Some details may not be current because the database updates at intervals throughout the day. Some information may be unavailable online under the Public Records Law. If the person you are looking for does not appear in the search results, they may have already been released from custody.

When you find a match, the system shows the inmate's mugshot, full name or booking name, date of birth, and jail number. You also see the booking date, physical descriptors like race, weight, sex, eye color, and hair color. Case information includes charges filed and the case number. Bond status shows whether the person can post bond and how much it costs. For detailed release information not shown online, contact Central Records at (786) 263-4222.

Inmate Accounts and Money Deposits

Inmates need money in their jail accounts to buy items from the commissary, make phone calls, or bond themselves out. To deposit money, you need the inmate's booking name, jail number, and the facility number 233101.

You can deposit funds in person at a kiosk in the lobby of any detention center. The kiosks accept cash. For online deposits, use the Touchpay provider with a credit or debit card. You can also call the Touchpay phone line to deposit money using a credit or debit card. Inmates use these funds for self-bonding, commissary purchases, and other jail expenses while in custody.

Video Visitation for Miami-Dade Inmates

Miami-Dade County uses remote video visits for all inmate visitation. Only approved visitors on the inmate's master visitation list can schedule visits. Attorneys and other professionals must apply and register, which takes two to three business days for approval. Personal visitors need to register, create an account, and wait 24 hours before they can schedule a visit.

Schedule your visit at least one day in advance, but not more than seven days ahead. Unregistered visitors are not allowed to appear on video calls. Visitors must dress appropriately. Visits cannot be extended beyond the scheduled time. You cannot photograph or record during the visit. Displaying inappropriate items during a visit is forbidden. Violations of these rules may result in losing visiting privileges or facing disciplinary actions.

Florida Public Records Law and Inmate Information

Chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes is the Public Records Act. This law requires government agencies to provide access to most records. Jail records in Miami-Dade County fall under this law. Section 945.10 lists exemptions for confidential information. Medical records, mental health files, and substance abuse treatment records cannot be released without consent. Victim statements and witness protection information stay confidential.

To request records that are not available online, contact Central Records in writing or by phone. The department reviews requests and provides cost estimates before producing records. You may need to pay fees for extensive searches or large volumes of documents. Section 119.07 allows agencies to charge for supervision services and special technology use when fulfilling public records requests.
